Plants take in CO2 as a part of photosynthesis. CO2 is released as a part of cellular respiration in both plants and animals. Carbon is deposited in the ground as organisms die and decay. Fossil fuels that are burned release CO2 back into the atmosphere. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and as such must be controlled to slow global climate change. |
